What's a Bird Dog?
"Some of you may ask, 'What is a bird dog or why bird dog real estate?' Bird dogs are working dogs bred for finding and retrieving game. They are bundles of endless energy, known for their speed, agility, endurance, keen senses, and grace. Back at the house, they are super playful pups that just want to be petted and rubbed on by the kids, not unlike any other pet dog. Chasing and pointing at butterflies all day or the occasional bird that happens into their yard or sits on their fence. Their energy level is through the roof with an appetite to match.
As soon as they get into the truck and go into the field, their entire demeanor switches. They go nuts if you happen to make the mistake of pulling out another dog first, barking and pawing at the kennel door. They know in their minds they are the only ones who can do the job. As soon as all four feet touch the ground, they are off like a rocket, running in every direction at what seems like 50 mph. You will catch a glimpse or blur of them in between the grasses, briars, and trees. Every once in a while, you will see them stop to look up and see where you are; they will put their noses to the air and reassess the direction of the wind and if they possibly caught a whiff of their prey. They will then start working upwind towards that faint smell, keying in on it as it grows stronger.
As soon as that lead comes to fruition, that dog will LOCK on point. The tail goes straight, and that front paw comes up at an angle. It is one of the most amazing things to watch. That nose and eyes will lock onto its prey, whether it is visible or not. It is incredible how something can be going on at that speed and hit a pose like a locked statue that fast. He has absolute tunnel vision towards his target. He has done his job in the hunt and has found your prey.
As a kid, it was always my favorite thing to go on a hunt and watch the dogs work. To this day, I am still just in awe every time the dogs get put into the field. There is something magically about just watching them work. There was no doubt about Bird Dog Real Estate as the brokerage name.
